Review of Deep Sea Fishing Party Boat in Destin

  • Brandi Jirka USA Jul 18 2019 10:41am

My husband, my father and I went deep sea fishing on 7-16. We took the 10 hour tour on the Gulf Breeze with Captain Gibson. We caught a boatload of fish! We limited out on the delicious Vermillion Snapper ( Mingos or Beeliners) 330 for the boat. We also caught a ton of White Snapper and large Red Snapper. We caught a whole lot of Trigger fish, but they were out of season so we had to throw them back. The captain knew just where to go and if the fish weren’t biting hard right away then we would pull up and move on. He really wanted everyone to catch the most fish possible. He was also an expert at moving the boat just enough so that everyone’s lines went straight down and we did not get tangled up. Definitely an expert captain. Our deckhands were Alex and Alex along with First Mate Jon. They were super friendly and helpful, and I’ve never seen a group of more hard working guys! They were constantly moving and working from before the time we got there until long after we left I’m sure. They really made it a smooth experience. This was our first time, so I’m going to give some tips for other first timers. When choosing the length of your trip, keep in mind that it is always 2 hours out and 2 hours back. The remaining amount of time is the time that you will actually get to fish. ( I think the 4 hour trip stays close to land and catches different types of fish) It is HOT! Pack lots and lots of water and hydrate and sunscreen up with high SPF before you go. A cooling towel would have been the best thing ever to have in that heat. Dress in very light breathable clothing. They use circle hooks for the health of the fish. These hooks aren’t usually swallowed and almost always hook the lip. That being said, I usually fish fresh water and found the circle hooks difficult to bait at first. It would be helpful to use some of that 2 hour drive time out to practice and get fast at baiting the hook and familiarize yourself with the reel. The faster you bait and reel, the more fish you can catch! It is nothing like freshwater fishing! There is no waiting for a bite! Once you hit bottom, it is max 4 seconds before you need to reel in your fish! I will never go with another boat! They have made a believer out of me! My father has been deep sea fishing over 20 times and he said this was his best trip by far!

Brandi, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review! Just to clarify some points about travel time for future customers: Party boats have federal permits which means they have to travel 9 miles out to sea in order to fish. This does take between 1.5-2 hrs for traveling to reach the fishing grounds. Each captain has different "hot spots" they like to fish so if one spot isn't biting, the captain will move the boat. The 4 hr trip isn't any closer to land than the 6 hr trip is. The 6hr trip just gives you much more fishing time because the captain can travel to more spots. Thank you so much for your kind words and we hope your vacation was amazing! TripShock! Director of Sales

    Fishing trip.

Great crew and experience but as a tourist and first experience deep sea fishing I was excited when I would catch a fish and wanted a keepsake (picture). I caught a big fish and before I could even tell my boyfriend to get the phone which was in his pocket the crew member took the fish off the hook and let it go. Any time I would mention wanting a picture before the fish was out of the water the crew member said you better hurry. Other than that, great trip!
